Q. What do
you know about the citrus called "Limequat"?
A. A tiny
(about 2 inches long), round citrus fruit that's a cross between the kumquat and
lime. Limequats (Citrus aurantifolia x
Fortunella japonica) have a thin,
greenish-yellow rind and pale yellow flesh that has a tart lime flavor. As with
kumquats, they may be eaten whole, rind and all. Look for firm fruit without
blemishes. Refrigerate in a plastic bag for up to a month. Use as you would
limes.

It is a small tree that grows into a contained bushy
form. The leaves are characteristically citrus-like. The limequat produces an
abundance of fruit even at a young age. The fruit is small, oval, greenish
yellow and contains seeds or pips. It has a sweet tasting skin and a bitter
sweet pulp that tastes similar to limes. The fruit can be eaten whole or the
juice and rind can be used to flavor drinks and dishes. It has considerable
amounts of vitamin C and is strongly acidic.
Originating in China, this plant is now grown in Japan, Israel, Spain, Malaysia,
South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States in California and
Florida. The fruit can be found, in small quantities, during the fall and winter
months in the United States.
Limequats can be grown indoors or outdoors providing the temperature stays
between 50°F to 86°F (Zone 8-11).They are fairly small and can be planted in containers or
pots. Plant limequats in a well drained fertile soil. Plant anytime of the
year, watering it well. Water when nearly dry and add fertilizer occasionally.
It can be pruned to keep a shape.
In addition to their role in fruit gardens, the kumquat
tree can fulfill various functions in the landscape. It can be used as a small
shade tree, a hedge, or property boundaries. It is also used to frame entryways,
and serve as backgrounds for small species of flowering plants. Because the
trees tend to be compact, they're a good choice for container gardens.
In general, kumquats like full sun, and do best if they
are given a well-drained spot. When more than one tree is planted, they should
be placed at least ten feet apart both ways.
Kumquat trees tend to be rather bushy and benefit from
regular pruning.
Q: Can you ship to
my state?
A: We can ship throughout the lower 48 United States, except for Arizona.

citrus trees from other areas. However, we have vendors throughout the country
so we can ship CA, FL, LA, TX!!
Q: How do you
handle cold weather shipping (zones 7 or less)?
A: In the winter months, we are concerned about keeping the trees above
freezing in transit to colder states. We include Cold Weather Handling

includes special packaging and shipping by Priority Shipping service which is usually 2-3 days from the date we ship. If
it is too cold we will hold the package until the following week to
try again. Alternatively, you can choose to either delay shipment for
up to 30 days or order when the weather is warmer just put that in the
